Ref. No.A/2011-12/791 23rd January, 2012

To,
The Commissioner of Sales Tax,
8th Floor, Vikrikar Bhavan,
Mazgaon, Mumbai-400 010.
Hon’ble Sir,
Sub : Request for Extension of Due Date for e-Filing of Form 704
Sir, you would be aware that the due date for e-filing of Form 704 for FY 2010-11 is
31st January ‘12. The dealers and practitioners are also required to e-file before
31st January’12 the monthly and quarterly returns for the period ended 31st Dec.11.
In this context we would like to bring to your notice that our association has been
receiving requests from various members and other associations that due to nonavailability
of power for more than 5 to 7 hours during the day-time in various parts in
the State of Maharashtra, it is practically very difficult for the dealers as well as the
practitioner’s to compile the data for Form 704 and e-filing of Form 704 within the time
limit provided. Also compiling the partywise data alongwith TIN Nos for Annexures J-1
to J-6 and the data compilation for declaration forms received and pending for
Annexures G, H and I is consuming lots of time. Moreover because of the ongoing
process of receiving of declaration forms , the dealers want to provide the latest updated
data for declaration forms received and pending in the Form 704. Since this data is to
required to be compiled declaration form-wise i.e quarterly or monthly, as the case may
be, and after considering the effects of various debit/credit notes pertaining to the interstate
transactions, the data compilation work is demanding lots of time and causing
delays. The power shortages in various parts of Maharashtra are also delaying the matter.
Further, during the last one month the dealers and practitioner’s are facing difficulties in
uploading of the e-returns and e-forms due to problems on the Mahavat website and
frequent unavailability of the website. In this context we had also sent letters dated 29th
Dec.’11 and 4th Jan.’12 and emails to you. The due date of 31st Dec.’11 was extended
upto 7th Jan.’12 considering the problems on the Mahavat website. The effect of
difficulties faced in uploading the e-forms during that period is also reflected in
compiling of data and uploading of e-forms in Jan’12. Still the dealers/practioners are
facing difficulties in uploading of the e-forms and emails received from members were
forwarded to your office on 21st Jan’11 regarding difficulties being faced by
dealers/practitioners due to frequent non-availability of website. The copies of the said
letter/emails are attached herewith for your reference.
Sir, you may also be aware that there are no financial implications to the exchequer on
account of extention of due date for filing of Form 704.
Due to the above difficulties being faced by the dealers and practitioners, we earnestly
request you to kindly consider the above situations and extend the due date of e-filing of
Form 704 from 31st January, 2012 to 29th February, 2012.
Thanking You in anticipation.
Yours Faithfully,
For The Sales Tax Practitioners’ Association of Maharashtra,

Hiten S. Shah
President

Convenor - Law & Representation Committee
